Lesson Plan Evaluation Guidelines and Standards

Lesson plans should challenge students and promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Our students deserve an education that prepares them for the real world and for future success, and that includes academic rigor and high expectations. Lesson plans should be well-structured, engaging, and aligned with relevant academic goals and standards.

Lesson plans should be based on factual information and accurate representations of history, science, and social studies.

The lesson plan should include assessment strategies to evaluate student understanding and provide feedback. This can include observation, questioning, thumbs-up/thumbs-down, or other methods to determine if students are making progress toward the learning objectives.

The plan should include closure activities that summarize, clarify, and reinforce what has been learned, helping students retain the information in their long-term memory.

The plan should utilize materials, resources, and technology effectively to support the teaching and learning process. This includes an inventory of available resources, such as audio/visual aids, community resources, equipment, library resources, etc.

All lesson plans must align with the state standards provided by the state board of education and the Department of education.

Lesson plans should be carefully designed to be relevant and age-appropriate for the intended grade level to ensure the content is understandable, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.

Lesson plans should instill a respect for authority and emphasize the values that make our nation great, including encouraging students to honor our country, our flag, and our leaders. Any content that criticizes or undermines our country’s values, traditions, or leaders will be excluded.

Lesson plans should reinforce traditional values and morals. Our lesson plans should underscore the importance of stable, nuclear families with clearly defined gender roles.

While promoting traditional values, it is also important to respect cultural and religious diversity. Lesson plans should be sensitive to different backgrounds and beliefs, fostering an environment of tolerance and understanding.

Lesson plans should present factual information without political bias.

We believe in the importance of parental involvement in education. Lesson plans should be transparent and accessible to parents, and they should reinforce the values taught at home. Any content that isolates parents or promotes values contrary to those held by the child’s family should be avoided.

A committee of trusted educators and community members will review and approve lesson plans. This committee will ensure that the lesson plans adhere to these values and meet the academic standards we expect.
